Associate Dean & Professor of Political Science

Biography

I am an academic leader and political economist at Sam Houston State University, currently serving as the Associate Dean of Student Success in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. My career has evolved from exploring the politics of global crises to analyzing the institutional logic of higher education.

My work is driven by a core premise: solving complex institutional challenges requires uncovering the underlying incentives that shape behavior. I apply this framework across a diverse portfolio—from the politics of nuclear weapons and natural disasters to the emerging impact of AI on student success and university policy.

Whether leading administrative initiatives, conducting research, or writing for a broader public audience, my goal is to decode the structural "rules of the game" to build more effective and resilient institutions.
